Detroit Zoo - Royal Oak, MI 

The Detroit Zoo has 125 acres of naturalistic habitats for 2,400 animals from aardvarks to zebras and features award-winning attractions such as the National Amphibian Conservation Center, Great Apes of Harambee and Arctic Ring of Life. The Zoo’s newest attraction is the spectacular Polk Penguin Conservation Center, the largest facility for penguins in the world.

Tips for your visit: 

  1. Your visit will include lots of walking, so bring a stroller or wagon 
  2. Make sure you have sunscreen for hot summer days!
  3. The zoo allows you to bring in food from outside, so feel free to pack your own lunch and snacks. 

The Henry Ford & Greenfield Village - Dearborn, MI 

The Henry Ford Museum is a large indoor and outdoor history museum complex in Dearborn, MI. The museum collection contains the presidential limousine of John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln's chair from Ford's Theatre, Thomas Edison's laboratory, the Wright Brothers' bicycle shop, the Rosa Parks bus, and many more historical exhibits.

Tips for your visit: 

  1. You can probably spend 2-3 hours in The Henry Ford and 2-4 hours at Greenfield Village.  It's possible to do them both in one day; however, it will be a long day for little ones! 
  2. Make sure you have sunscreen for hot summer days!
  3. If you're visiting Greenfield Village, there will be a lot of walking. Bring a stroller or wagon.
  4. You can pack lunch / snacks for your visit.  

Hands On Museum - Ann Arbor, MI 

Located in downtown Ann Arbor, the Hands On Museum is fun for children of all ages. There is a toddler room for kids up to 4 years for babies and young children that includes a fire truck, ball play, water play and much more. Other exhibits in the museum will appeal to kids of all ages and it is all hands-on! 

Tips for your visit:

  1. You can pack a lunch or snack for your visit. You must eat in the designated area in the museum. There is no on-site food available besides vending machines for drinks/snacks. Located in downtown Ann Arbor, you are close to tons of great restaurant options!
  2. You can spend 2-4 hours at the museum.
  3. There are private rooms for nursing / pumping with locks.
  4. The museum features lots of stairs to get to the multiple levels. There are elevators if you bring a stroller (I would not recommend a wagon).

Detroit Kid City - Southfield, MI / Clinton Twp, MI 

A mini-city themed indoor play-cafe located in Southfield provides plenty of fun for kids. The cafe serves coffee drinks, kids drinks and snacks. 

Tips for your visit:

  1. No outside food allowed! 
  2. The facility (Southfield) is on the smaller side, so leave your stroller behind.
